Hayling Island Community Centre Association

The Hayling Island Community Centre Association stands on Station Road in West Town as the principal multi-purpose venue on the island. Run entirely as a registered charity without local authority funding, the organisation depends on membership fees, room bookings and donations to cover running costs and maintain the building.

Central to its layout is the main hall, equipped with one of the best dance floors on Hayling Island together with a proper stage, lighting and sound systems. The space regularly accommodates concerts, dances, wedding receptions, exhibitions and public meetings. Additional fittings include a grand piano, a cinema screen available on request and sports markings and equipment for badminton, short mat bowls and table tennis. Folding tables and chairs allow flexible seating arrangements, while an optional ceiling canopy can transform the atmosphere for special occasions.

Four smaller activity rooms surround the main hall and prove popular for children’s parties, keep-fit sessions, adult education classes, committee meetings and private tuition. Each room offers straightforward access to shared facilities. An annex reached by stairs or lift includes its own kitchen and a roof terrace that provides outdoor seating during warmer weather.

Catering support comes from a modern kitchen adjacent to the main hall, fitted with commercial ovens, dishwasher, hot cupboard and ample crockery. A smaller kitchen serves the activity rooms for basic tea and coffee provision.

The fully licensed bar operates during functions; external alcohol may not be brought onto the premises, though advance orders can be placed with the bar manager. A daytime snack bar supplies hot and cold drinks alongside confectionery and crisps.

Daily programming covers a broad spectrum of community interests. Fitness classes, social clubs and advisory services all find regular homes within the building, alongside one-off workshops and courses. The centre has provided these opportunities for more than forty years, adapting to changing needs while remaining a constant focal point for island life.

Room hire arrangements suit gatherings of every scale, from informal meetings to large celebrations. Membership brings reduced booking rates and directly contributes to the charity’s sustainability. Overall, the association continues to offer practical, well-maintained spaces that enable groups and individuals to meet, learn and celebrate on Hayling Island.
